- Abstract
- The overarching objective of "Hazard Profiles of Sri Lanka" is to support the mainstreaming of disaster risk management in planning, preparedness, investments, education and awareness, research and other interventions to achieve the goal of "Safer Sri Lanka". The legal and institutional mandate for the preparation of the hazard profiles is derived from the Disaster Management Act of 2005 and "Road Map Towards Safer Sri Lanka."
The Disaster Management Center (DMC) with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sri Lanka along with a large number of agencies joined hands to develop national level hazard profiles on Coastal Erosion, Drought, Floods, Landslides, Lightning, Sea Level Rise, Storm Surge, Tropical Cyclone and Tsunami. Hazards information, maps, technical reports and a facility to develop custom maps by combining with other national map layers by users are available through www.riskinfo.lk and www.hazard.lk.
Hazard profiles are presented individually along with methods.
